The Apollo Sweater — Danny's Hand-Knit Jumper from The Shining

OVERLOOK HOTEL, 1980

The Apollo Sweater

Danny's hand-knit Apollo 11 jumper from The Shining — recreated the way it was meant to be made.

In Stanley Kubrick's The Shining (1980), Danny Torrance pedals his tricycle through the Overlook Hotel's endless corridors in a hand-knit Apollo 11 rocket sweater. It went on to become one of the most analyzed costumes in film history — and it looked hand-knit because it was meant to be.

Ours actually is: knit by hand, rocket and all, by the women of the Dalyasan village association in Türkiye. Unisex, warm, and a quiet handshake between film lovers who spot it.
