The Marilyn Cardigan — Hand-Knit Like the 1962 Beach Photos
SANTA MONICA, 1962
The Marilyn Cardigan
The chunky belted cardigan from Marilyn Monroe's beach photographs — hand-knit in a Turkish mountain village.
In July 1962, photographer George Barris met Marilyn Monroe on a windy Santa Monica beach. Wrapped in a chunky knit cardigan, barefoot in the sand, she gave the camera some of the warmest, most human photographs ever taken of her. The sweater became part of the legend.
Our version is knit entirely by hand by the women of the Dalyasan village association — thick, soft wool with a waist belt, in cream or light brown. The kind of piece you reach for on cold evenings and keep for decades.
